Vertu Motors plc was formed in late 2006 to acquire and consolidate UK motor retail businesses. The Group was founded as a new entrant into the UK motor retail sector and is listed on the AIM market (UK:VTU).
The Group predominantly trades under Vertu, a motor retail brand consolidated in 2025 - previously consisting of the Group's Vertu Motors, Bristol Street Motors (England) and Macklin Motors (Scotland) retail brands. Having acquired Bristol Street Motors in 2007, the company has century-old roots to the West Midlands, with the first dealership on Bristol Street in Birmingham still standing and operating today, as Vertu Ford Birmingham.
Over the past two decades, Vertu has grown into a nationally recognised brand name, representing more than 32 of the world's leading car manufacturers, including the likes of Audi, BMW, BYD, Citroen, CUPRA, Dacia, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MG, MINI, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, SEAT, SKODA, smart, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo and Vauxhall. The Group also includes Carrs Ferrari in Exeter, a huge range of new and used vans and motorcycles, in addition to all aftersales services: servicing, MOTs, repairs, parts and accessories. Vertu has over 200 dealerships spread nationwide, from Dunfermline down to Truro. The Vertu Motors group is the fourth-largest automotive retailer in the UK, with over 195 dealerships nationwide, and has earned numerous industry accolades. These include Best Customer Experience at the 2019 Auto Trader Retailer Awards, Motability Website of the Year and Group Contact of the Year in 2019, Best Used Car Online Sales Experience at the 2021 Used Car Awards, Dealer Website of the Year (Franchised) at the 2022 Motor Trader Industry Awards, and the Social Media of the Year at both the 2022 and 2023 Motor Trader Industry Awards.
In 2017, the Group became the first major UK motor retailer to offer customers the ability to purchase a used vehicle entirely online with the launch of their Buy Online platform. Vertu Motors plc also operates a range of ancillary businesses including Vansdirect, Wiperblades.co.uk, Windscreen Wipers, The Taxi Centre, AceParts, Powerbulbs.
