Support For Local Food Banks With Van Donation From Vertu Mercedes-Benz Slough

Vertu Mercedes-Benz Slough has supported Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara Food Support by donating a van to help the charity deliver food to local food banks.

Volunteers at Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara, one of the largest Sikh temples in the UK, based on Bath Road, started the food support branch at the beginning of the pandemic. It distributes 430 tonnes of fresh produce to more than 130 charities, faith organisations, and individuals.

Vertu Mercedes-Benz Slough has loaned the charity a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van for six months to assist volunteers with deliveries across the area, including parts of London.

The charity, which recently won a special award for 'community resourcefulness in response to COVID-19', as well as the prestigious Queen’s Award in this years honours list, is an important cause to Vertu Mercedes-Benz Slough and is in line with Head of Business, Raj Virdee’s, own faith.

Sukhdeep Dhillon, Sewadar at Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara, said: “We are very grateful for this kind donation from Vertu Mercedes-Benz Slough. The van will help us to continue to make these vital deliveries across our region.

“The pandemic has affected many families across the UK, and with the help from organisations like Vertu Motors, local charities are able to provide this much needed support.”

Raj Singh Virdee, head of business at Mercedes-Benz Slough, said: “Supporting local organisations like Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara is very important to myself, and the Vertu Motors group.

“The charity is close to my heart and my own Sikh faith, and I wanted to ensure it could continue to make vital food bank deliveries across our region.

“I wish Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara Food Support the very best and would like to thank the organisation for its service.”
