Vertu MINI Sunderland is helping to slam the brakes on childhood cancer after raising £1,300 for Children’s Cancer North as part of their MINI Big Love campaign.

The dealership surpassed its initial target of £500 after hosting raffles, washing cars, selling sweet treats, as well as donating £100 for every vehicle it sold.

MINI’s Big Love campaign is a worldwide initiative, which encourages dealerships to support good causes in their area and influence social change through partnerships, raising awareness and fundraising.

At Vertu Sunderland MINI, Children’s Cancer North was chosen by the dealership team. With approximately 100 children diagnosed with cancer in the North East and Cumbria each year, the charity's mission is to make life better for children with cancer.

Children’s Cancer North does this by funding revolutionary research to develop more effective treatments that are less toxic with fewer side effects, and supporting the children whilst in treatment with specialist play, music and animation therapies amongst many others.

The charity was formed in 2021, from the marriage of North of England Children’s Cancer Research and Children’s Cancer Fund, which have collectively raised more than £40 million since 1979.

Jeff Aynsley, Head of Business at Vertu Sunderland MINI, said: “We are genuinely touched by the generosity of our colleagues and customers, who have thrown their weight behind the MINI Big Love campaign.

"This fundraiser was not only a great success but also a heartwarming demonstration of our dealership's values and the strong bond we share with our community. Everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer in some way, so when we were looking at which cause to support, it was an easy choice.”

Emma Carson, from Children’s Cancer North, expressed her gratitude, saying: "We’re very grateful to receive this donation from Vertu Sunderland MINI.

“The dealership’s team really got into the spirit of Big Love and their donation will help us to help children in our region, and their families, who are going through cancer treatment, as well as research to help make cancer a thing of the past.”
