Vertu Motors Shows Support For Mental Health With Special Charity Match
Two leading mental health charities will benefit from the generosity of colleagues at Vertu Motors following a special football match organised to raise funds for MIND and BEN.
The fantastic total raised was £1935 with £1400 for BEN and £535 for MIND.
The Vertu Motors Trophy event, kindly hosted by Vertu Motors partners Sunderland AFC at The Academy of Light, saw a team of colleagues based across Vertu and Rotterdam House go up against a team formed from those working in Digital House – all of which are part of Vertu Motors plc’s Central Services, located on the Team Valley Trading Estate in Gateshead.
Those competing in the match all donated £10 to secure their place on the pitch, with tickets being sold to colleagues, friends and family eager to show their support.
A special raffle was also held, with a shirt signed by Sunderland legend Jimmy Montgomery, and a ball signed by the current Sunderland first team, being handed out at prizes.
Although the main focus of the day was raising as much money as possible for the two charities, there was the small matter of bragging rights on the pitch, with the game itself ending in a hard-fought 2-2 draw.
Ultimately, it was the team from Vertu and Rotterdam House that emerged on top, securing victory 10-9 after a penalty shootout.
Robert Forrester, Chief Executive of Vertu Motors plc, said: “Although I was forced to miss playing in the match for the first time, it was fantastic to cheer on both teams as they went into battle for the 2023 Vertu Motors Trophy.
“It was a great game between two very evenly matched teams, as seen by the fact that it went all the way to penalty kicks; it was a very enjoyable afternoon for those in attendance.
“More importantly, the event raised a large amount of money for two very worthwhile causes. I’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who was there to show their support.”
MIND is a leading mental health charity operating across England and Wales that campaigns for better support for those who need it – with a focus on ensuring that no-one should be forced to deal with mental health problems alone.
BEN is dedicated to supporting people working in the automotive industry, offering free and confidential online self-help, helpline and support services to help enhance the health and wellbeing off those in the sector.
