British Touring Car Driver Daniel Lloyd opens up about crash ahead of finale
Friday 7 October 2022, Brands Hatch: Ahead of the British Touring Car Championship season finale at Brands Hatch this weekend, Bristol Street Motors spoke to EXCELR8 Motorsport driver Daniel Lloyd about his career so far, his crash at Oulton Park and his comeback at Croft.
In an exclusive video available to watch in full here, Lloyd discussed how a life-threatening crash threatened to end his career and put his participation for the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season in doubt.
The motor retailer brand though – which has strong roots in motorsport across a multitude of disciplines, including their Click2Drive Bristol Street Motors Racing W Series Team – stepped in to help Lloyd’s bid to compete in the final two races of the championships.
In the video, an emotional Lloyd reveals how his career was on the brink of disaster. Yet this weekend and after his Croft return, the Huddersfield racer will aim to conclude the season on a high at Brand Hatch.
The 30-year-old will aim to record a new personal best championship finish as he looks to improve on the eleventh place result he claimed last season.
Lloyd says in the video: “After the crash and the financial issues I just never gave up. After those weeks of thinking I would never make it, to come back like I was able to, it was amazing. The best feeling of my life.”
“I just remember one car to the left, one to the right, smack. That was it. I went to the hospital, and I just remember the nurse coming in and saying, ‘I don’t know how you’ve done it, but you’ve got away without breaking anything’.”
“I actually had my race licence suspended, which I didn’t tell anyone about.”
“You don’t give yourself time to rest or settle and all of a sudden, it just hits you.”
The full video showcases the journey Lloyd has been on and is available to watch in full now on Bristol Street Motors’s website and social media channels.
