Vertu Expands Taxi Business With Acquisition Of Union Motor Company

Vertu Motors plc, one of the UK’s largest automotive retailers, has strengthened its position in the taxi sector through the strategic acquisition of Union Motor Company, the Authorised London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) repairer for Edinburgh.

The Scottish Government’s commitment to introducing low emission zones in major cities is accelerating the demand for more sustainable transport solutions, encouraging taxi drivers to transition to hybrid and electric vehicles.

LEVC’s TX model – based on the iconic black cab – is highly regarded by taxi drivers for its reliability, dual powertrain capability (switching between internal combustion and electric), and flexible charging options.

Union Motor Company has built a strong reputation within the Scottish taxi community over the past 25 years, and will continue operating from the existing Edinburgh premises, with the same great team and service - now backed by the strength of a national group.

Founder, Danny Flynn, will take on the role of LEVC Aftersales Manager for Scotland, while Claire Newlands will continue to lead day-to-day operations as General Manager.

Gregor Mackie of Vertu said: “The acquisition of Union Motor Company represents a significant step in our strategy to expand LEVC service coverage. We are committed to supporting the evolving needs of taxi drivers across Scotland and ensuring our aftersales service meets the highest standards.”

Robert Forrester, Chief Executive of Vertu Motors plc, added: “This acquisition aligns with our long-term growth strategy and reinforces our commitment to the taxi sector.

"Danny has developed an excellent business, and we are proud to welcome him and his team to the Group. With the strength of our network of almost 200 dealerships and our proven systems, we are confident we can enhance Union’s service offering whilst supporting the industry’s transition to cleaner, low-emission vehicles.”
