Automotive retailer Vertu will get behind Barnsley FC’s quest to gain promotion to the EFL Championship as part of its increased presence across the Yorkshire region.
Vertu added nine dealerships in Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire to its portfolio back in November following the acquisition of Burrows Motor Company, including two sites within Barnsley itself.
Both the Toyota dealership on Barugh Green Road and the Kia site on Pontefract Road have now become part of Vertu’s extensive network of more than 200 dealerships across England and Scotland.
The two dealerships have enjoyed a long relationship with Barnsley FC that started back in 2015, with the most recent multi-year agreement with the Club taking effect in late 2023.
Following the acquisition of Burrows, the partnership with Barnsley FC will be realigned to sit under the Vertu banner, and includes sponsorship of the dugout at Oakwell as well as branding across pitch side advertising boards and on the stadium scoreboard.
Vertu will also become the sponsor of Barnsley FC’s training kit.
The realigned partnership means Barnsley join an expansive list of sporting clubs to have ties with Vertu, which includes fellow EFL sides Birmingham City, Burnley, Plymouth Argyle and Sunderland, as well as Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
Under the stewardship of Darrell Clarke, Barnsley currently play in EFL League One as the Tykes bid to return to the second tier of the English game for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
Robert Forrester, Chief Executive of Vertu, said: “Following our acquisition of Burrows, we are delighted to now add Barnsley FC to our extensive list of sports partners.
“Barnsley has a key role to play in the local community, and we look forward to not only supporting the team on the pitch, but also engaging with supporters and doing our part to help the Club with its work in the local area.”
George Johnston, Barnsley FC Partnerships Account Manager, said: “Firstly, we would like to thank Burrows Motor Company for their continued support over the last ten years. The work that we have done together at the Club and in the local community allows us to build on an already strong partnership and take it to new heights following the exciting acquisition by Vertu.
“We are now delighted to be working with Vertu as a partner of Barnsley Football Club. As an award-winning automotive retailer with a widely recognised brand across football and sport, we look forward to engaging supporters even further and providing special experiences within the local Barnsley community through our collaboration.”
