Vertu Worcester Backs Rapids Women's Team Into New Era

Vertu Worcester Backs Rapids Women's Team Into New Era

Vertu Worcester will support the Worcestershire Rapids Women’s team in 2025 and beyond as the women’s game in England moves into a new era.

The dealership is located around three miles from the New Road Ground on Cosgrove Close and will feature on the rear of the Rapids Women’s team in a multi-year agreement that will run through to the end of the 2027 campaign.

The new partnership allows Vertu Worcester to back women in a sport at a historic moment for cricket, with the upcoming season being the first featuring a new structure introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board as part of the evolution of the women’s professional game.

Worcestershire Rapids will become one of ten teams in Tier 2, with the new system replacing the previous regional model and aligning the women’s game with the county structure seen in first class cricket.

Under the new format, Worcestershire Rapids will compete in Vitality Blast Women's League 2 alongside the other nine Tier 2 teams, and also in League 2 of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

The team will also take its place in the all-new Vitality T20 Women's County Cup, where the 37 teams spread across the three tiers of the game will do battle in a knock-out format.

The Rapids will enter the competition in the opening round with a trip to Northamptonshire, with the eight teams in Tier 1 joining from the third round.

Vertu Worcester will support The Rapids across all three competitions, with the first competitive fixture having taken place on 19 April when the team travelled to Headingley to face Yorkshire in the opening game in the Metro Bank One Day Cup; scoring victory by 114 runs.

“We are delighted to be sponsoring the Worcestershire Rapids Womens Team for the 2025 season,” Iain McDonald, General Manager Vertu Worcester, said.

“Cricket is big part of the Worcester community and it is an honour to be part of it, particularly at such an exciting time for the women’s game. We hope this is the start of a growing partnership that sees both parties succeed, and we wish the team all the best this season.”
